With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Kenilworth Castle is inviting visitors to take a look at what one man did for love this February half term, with a Tudor trail that helps visitors explore how Robert Dudley changed the castle to help him woo Elizabeth I!

The story of Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester and Elizabeth I is one of history’s great love stories, which sawDudleyspending a fortune to remodel the castle ahead ofElizabeth’s visit in 1575. From 11 – 19 February, visitors will have to think like a Tudor and follow a series of clues to discover the changes that were made to the castle to transform it from formidable fortress to pleasure palace!

“The changes made to the castle by Robert Dudley were tremendously ambitious – not only moving the entrance to the castle so that the Queen would have easier access to local hunting grounds, but also building a new accommodation block so that the she could enjoy the best views over the Mere,” explainsKenilworthCastle’s manager, Holly Woodward. “Exploring these areas gives visitors a fascinating insight into what one man did for love... but sadly, to little avail asElizabethI refused to give in to his wooing.”

Those completing the family-friendly trail will receive a special certificate for their efforts.

KenilworthCastleis open daily throughout the February half term week, from10.00amto4.00pm. Admission prices are £8.00 for adults, £7.20 for concessions and £4.80 for children, with a family ticket available for just £20.80 (two adults and up to three children).
