EnOcean and partners present energy harvesting wireless innovations at Building Services 2012
Companies demonstrate new applications and advantages of battery-free wireless solutions for energy- and cost-efficient buildings
Oberhaching/Munich, Germany/London, UK, 19 September 2012 – EnOcean and Thermokon, two promoters of the EnOcean Alliance, today announced they will exhibit at Building Services 2012, the official CIBSE Conference and Exhibition, taking place at London Olympia, 10–11 October. Additionally, Smart Buildings Ltd. will also share the joint stand #D10. The companies will present a wide range of innovative energy harvesting wireless products and systems for efficient building automation. Using wireless energy-autonomous technology energy managers, builders, contractors, installers and architects can easily equip facilities with maintenance-free and service-free automation solutions that enable substantial energy and cost savings.
The Energy Harvesting technology from EnOcean powers wireless communications by collecting energy from the surroundings from motion, indoor light or temperature differentials. This eliminates complicated and costly cabling and the products based on this technology are maintenance-free. The guiding principle behind this is the international standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10, the first wireless standard optimised for energy harvesting solutions.
EnOcean and Thermokon are two of the eight promoters of the EnOcean Alliance, its key players who lead, define and drive the organisation. The EnOcean Alliance is a non-profit association of companies that integrate EnOcean’s energy harvesting wireless technology in their products. By using the same basic technology for different solutions, the EnOcean Alliance members create devices and systems that are compatible with each other. Currently more than 300 companies worldwide belong to the EnOcean Alliance providing more than 1000 compatible products that work in accordance with the EnOcean standard.
At Building Services 2012, the following companies are exhibiting at stand #D10:
EnOcean will demonstrate its latest developments in energy harvesting wireless technology. This includes the ECO 200, the third generation of EnOcean’s mechanical energy converters. It combines a high level of efficiency, a long life span and compact design, offering a perfect concept for various energy-autonomous wireless switching elements for building automation or household appliances. The ECO 200 is part of the EnOcean ESK 300 starter kit, which enables a quick and easy approach to implementing energy harvesting wireless technology. Additionally, EnOcean will highlight the value of the ISO/IEC 14543-3-10 standard for the advancement of sustainable building automation systems.
At the show Thermokon Sensortechnik will present its wireless and batteryless radio system EasySens, an intelligent building control system incorporating EnOcean wireless technology. The new wireless valve actuator SAB02 ideally completes the EnOcean based EasySens portfolio with the demand on innovative solutions for energy-optimized building automation. After having simply mounted the SAB02 to the standard M30 regulation valve, the value actuator can be easily connected to the EnOcean based wireless network. The wireless valve actuator offers efficient power consumption and enables a self-sufficient heating/cooling control without the need for time- and cost-intensive configuration or installation. Thanks to the Thermokon gateways, the SAB02 can also operate in connection with wired building bus technologies such as KNX, BACnet, Modbus or LON.
Additionally, visitors can experience the new design-oriented wireless EnOcean-based room operating panel Thanos from Thermokon. It enables ease of use via an intuitive touch glass surface. The control of HVAC elements such as temperature set point adjustment, blind and light control or fan stages can be easily realized by a simple touch. Temperature and humidity detection, set point adjustment or light control is managed centrally, evaluated and seamlessly transmitted to the SAB02 valve actuator.
Smart Buildings Ltd. will show its latest generation of Eco CO2, the innovative EnOcean-powered wireless and batteryless CO2, temperature and humidity sensor which harvests natural and un-natural light sources to generate its energy. The CO2 sensor comes with the Eco-Sphere Energy Manager, a web-enabled dashboard capable of monitoring, managing and constantly enhancing building performance. The products help streamline the operational costs of buildings, meet regulatory compliance, manage operating risks and drive sustainability. Being fully EnOcean compliant they are easy and low-cost to install and, where possible, operate entirely without cables and batteries, making them maintenance-free.
Furthermore, the Echo range of EnOcean Alliance’s member MK Electric will be shown on the stand. Echo enables the creation of individual automated control systems for domestic or commercial environments. With the ability to incorporate a range of transmitters from switches, temperature sensors and presence detectors, alongside a range of receivers, installers can create a flexible system which delivers safety, comfort, cost savings and energy efficiency for building owners or users. MK Electric was the first major UK manufacturer to incorporate EnOcean technology into its Echo switches, enabling total location flexibility in all building environments.
