New EnOcean EDK 350 developer kit enables modular development of energy harvesting wireless solutions
* Complete energy harvesting product set for fast integration and configuration of batteryless wireless technology
* Flexible expandability of EnOcean ESK 300 starter kit to developer kit
Oberhaching/Munich, Germany, November 08, 2012 — At this year‘s electronica (November 13–16, 2012, Munich), EnOcean will introduce its new EDK 350 developer kit covering the entire product range, from energy harvesting and wireless modules to ready-made product solutions. The new kit is part of a modular concept by which EnOcean can offer OEMs a cost-effective and customised development platform for fast integration into building and industry automation, smart home as well as machine-to-machine systems. EnOcean will demonstrate the EDK 350 at the following partner booths: Future Electronics (hall A4, booth 259) and Farnell (hall A5, booth 558 and 559). The new EnOcean developer kit will replace the EDK 300 and will be available for OEMs from December 2012.
The new developer kit’s central element is a universal programmer board. In combination with EnOcean’s DolphinStudio PC software, the board is used to configure and program Dolphin-based modules. The complete EDK 350 includes the following EnOcean products: TCM 320 (transceiver module), STM 300 (universal wireless sensor module), ECO 200 (mechanical energy converter), PTM 330 (transmitter module for ECO 200), PTM 210/PTM 215 (energy harvesting switch module, PTM 215 includes data encryption function), STM 330 (energy harvesting temperature sensor module), USB 300 (USB wireless gateway), DolphinStudio (configuration and programming software) and DolphinAPI (application programming interface).
The package is completed by the DolphinView PC software for visualising and mapping the wireless protocol. The application profiles (EnOcean Equipment Profiles or EEP) can also be interpreted and sent by using the kit.
Customised development on demand
In addition to the new developer kit, the successful ESK 300 starter kit from EnOcean has also become a part of the modular offering for developers. The starter kit is ideal for initial tests and offers a basic approach to product design-ins using energy harvesting wireless technology. Including the USB 300 stick, the starter kit enables EnOcean-based products to be integrated quickly into smart home systems. If configuration, hardware or software development is required, the ESK 300 starter kit can be upgraded to the developer kit at any time via the EPK 350 programmer kit. The EPK 350 consists of the universal programmer board, a transceiver module and the universal sensor module.
Furthermore, developers can extend the EDK 350 developer kit with the EDK 352 thermo developer kit. This includes the STM 312 energy harvesting wireless sensor module and the ultra low voltage ECT 310 DC/DC converter in conjunction with a peltier element to power EnOcean modules by differences in temperature.
“Due to the new modular structure of the EnOcean kits, we offer our partners more flexibility in product development. Manufacturers can develop existing products with ease and, at the same time, open up and react quicker to new fields of application for energy harvesting wireless technology. This becomes particularly essential for new solution areas such as smart home or machine-to-machine communication,” said Andreas Schneider, Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Founder of EnOcean.
EnOcean Presentations at Wireless Congress 2012
