United Cargo Announces Approval of Envirotainer RKN e1 Container
United Cargo today announced the acceptance of the Envirotainer RKN e1 temperature control container. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the RKN e1 in July 2014, and United Cargo is the first U.S. airline to announce this container will be available for use by its customers. United Cargo is working with Envirotainer to complete the requirements necessary to accept the RKN e1 from customers shipping temperature-sensitive shipments via its TempControl service as soon as possible.
The Envirotainer RKN e1 is a forkliftable LD-3 size unit designed to meet the precise requirements of the healthcare industry. Unlike other Envirotainer units now accepted by United, the RKN e1 does not require the use of dry ice. Both electrical heating and compressor cooling are powered by internal nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. These batteries can be recharged from 0% to 100% in 8 hours by means of standard AC power.
“This is exciting news for United Cargo and our TempControl customers,” said Mary Tussing, United Cargo’s Manager of Specialty Sales. “We are very pleased to provide our customers another specialized option for the worldwide transport of their temperature-sensitive shipments.” Leasing options comparable to those for other TempControl containers will be offered to United Cargo customers.
"We are delighted that United Airlines has accepted our FAA-approved RKN e1 container for carriage on their aircraft,” said Simon Angeldorff, CEO of Envirotainer. “By completing their own validation processes, United Cargo is able to ship our RKN e1 – an important step to providing the same service offering and logistics model across the globe.”
