Documentary Chronicling the Journey of Recovery of a Severely Wounded Soldier and His Wife Selected for the Prestigious Festival’s Short Film Program

Shoulder 2 Shoulder, Inc. is pleased to announce the world premiere of their documentary film The Next Part will take place at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in April. The short film that chronicles the complex journey of recovery for a severely wounded soldier and his wife and their struggle with infertility as a result of his injuries has been selected for the international film festival’s Short Film (documentary) category.

“Shoulder 2 Shoulder is deeply honored to have The Next Part selected for the Tribeca Film Festival and to premiere our film at a festival that draws such a diverse range of filmmakers and audiences from around the world is very rewarding,” said Chris Ferguson, the film’s executive producer and president of Shoulder 2 Shoulder, Inc. “We hope this film creates greater awareness about the lesser-known challenges of injured warriors and their spouses and the courage, strength and compassion of the wounded warrior and caregiver community.”

The 17-minute documentary film was directed by Erin Sanger. The Next Part is told from the perspective of Kathleen “Kat” Causey, as she and her husband retired Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Causey adjust to the extreme changes in their lives as a result of the catastrophic injuries he sustained while serving as an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician in Afghanistan in 2011. An improvised explosive device (IED) cost Aaron both of his legs and caused significant soft tissue damage. The film is an intimate look at the Causeys’ long and emotional journey through recovery and their attempts to conceive before Aaron’s medical treatments decreased his fertility.

“This couple’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Erin Sanger, director of The Next Part. “With The Next Part, we wanted to give an honest portrayal of Kat and Aaron’s experiences in the aftermath of his injuries.”

The 2014 Tribeca Film Festival will take place April 16-27 in New York City and features films from emerging and established directors. The Next Part is among the 58 short films from 16 countries that were selected from more than 3000 submissions to be part of this year’s festival’s Short Film Selections.
