Corban selects Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS for "Digital Neighborhood" buildout Corban Communications, a carrier-neutral network services provider, has selected Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS broadband access system to extend its network. The Ericsson LMDS solution will allow Corban to bridge the last mile and operate point-to-multipoint microwave systems for operators that own 28GHz and 31GHz LMDS licenses. The agreement further extends Ericsson's global leadership position in microwave transmission providing reliable, scaleable carrier class solutions. MINI-LINK BAS provides end-users with symmetrical or asymmetrical services at up to 37 Mbps, dynamically allocated between users. It allows small and medium-sized enterprises to access new advanced broadband IP services in combination with voice and leased lines. Compared to fiber-based systems, wireless systems allow the ASP (Application Service Provider) market to rapidly take off with advanced services, increased performance, greater speed, and lower cost. "MINI-LINK's quality, flexibility and reliability were the things that drew us to the Ericsson solution," says Hal Thomas, President of Corban. "Ericsson also understood, in commercial terms, what we are trying to accomplish in the marketplace with point to multipoint microwave. They see the future of extending broadband access to Digital Neighborhoods, the smaller markets near those that are now served by fiber." "The functionality and flexibility of MINI-LINK BAS make it a perfect match for Corban's goal of delivering broadband Internet to its carrier customers," said Per-Arne Sandström, President and CEO, Ericsson Inc. "With MINI-LINK BAS, Corban will be able to provide doorstep delivery of broadband wireless, which will empower e-commerce and other means of content access." The point-to-multipoint MINI-LINK BAS offering is based on Ericsson's proven point-to-point MINI-LINK transport network solutions. Ericsson already holds a strong position with its MINI-LINK product family with one third of the world market - more than double that of its nearest competitor. MINI-LINK BAS is a complete end-to-end solution, from customer services to backbone network solutions. Open interfaces and standards mean that it can easily be integrated with other vendors IP and ATM products as well as with Ericsson's IP router family and ATM packet switching line. The system operates in the 24 to 31 GHz frequency band, including US LMDS bands, Canadian bands and European ETSI bands. The MINI-LINK BAS addresses the emerging and promising potential of the fixed wireless data market. This solution enables operators to provide telecom grade voice, leased line services and broadband data interconnections to and between office buildings at speeds unmatched by similar systems. Symmetrical LAN interconnections with speeds more than 15 times faster than traditional E1 leased lines are rapidly set-up via the airwaves that dynamically allocate capacity on demand between buildings and users.
