Ericsson and Diginet switch on first fixed wireless multi-service network in Pan-Latin America Ericsson and Diginet Americas, Inc. today announced the deployment and operation of Latin America's first fixed wireless broadband multi-service platforms in São Paulo, Brazil and Bogota, Colombia. Washington, D.C. based Diginet Americas began serving customers with this next generation network in September - just three months from the announcement of the contract. Ericsson's highly scalable, carrier-class AXD 301 ATM switch provides the core for Diginet's multi-service networks in Brazil and Colombia and will support a full range of high quality data, Internet, voice and video services. Diginet's networks are available to carriers, system integrators, ISPs and large-to- medium corporate users throughout the Bogota and São Paulo metropolitan areas. The network architecture has been optimized to support Latin America's explosive demand for data communications and Internet services, while fully and cost-effectively supporting carrier-class legacy services, which include voice and clear channel digital private line for end-user and other carriers. This multi-service ATM network architecture will play a decisive role in eliminating the chronic bottleneck that users experience today when accessing the Internet. It supports massive and scalable throughput capacity and comprehensive service protection and restoration capabilities. Ericsson's multi-service solution for Diginet Americas includes Ericsson's MINI-LINK microwave wireless systems, optimized for IP-based services. Ericsson's strengths in mobile, microwave transport and ATM technologies are being combined in the MINI-LINK product family to create point-to-point and point-to-multipoint access systems.
