Ericsson and Libertel sign contract for first commercial release of GSM on the Net solution Ericsson and Libertel have signed a contract for the first commercial release of Ericsson's GSM on the Net Solution. GSM on the Net combines the mobility and voice quality of GSM with the services of Internet Protocol (IP) technology. Ericsson's GSM on the Net integrates GSM wireless communications into a LAN (Local Area Network)/intranet environment, providing voice-over-IP calls and one-terminal, one-number wireless services for business users with simple and familiar application interfaces, regardless of location. "GSM on the Net combines the openness and simplicity of IP with the local and global mobility offered by GSM," says Bengt-Åke Ljudén, Marketing Director of GSM on the Net at Ericsson. "GSM on the Net makes the IP- based wireless office an affordable reality." "Libertel expects particularly high interest in the new service offering to come from large, international companies and those organizations with a high percentage of distance and flex workers," says Libertel. "GSM on the Net will give our business clients the possibility to increase mobility in and outside the office in a cost-effective way." GSM on the Net also opens up further advanced service opportunities such as web-initiated telephony (click-to-dial on the PC), unified messaging and localized services to users as they move around their offices. Users will be able to access the system from a range of terminals, from fixed IP telephones through GSM smart phones to full, multimedia-capable LAN terminals.
