Ericsson adds SON Policy Manager to address increasing network complexity
- Ericsson launches SON Policy Manager to help operators simplify the setup and running of their networks
- Product enables operators to centrally set and control policies and rules to govern self-organizing networks
- Launch marks another step in Ericsson's integrated approach to automating network management, reducing opex and improving the mobile broadband experience
Consumers want a great mobile broadband experience and their expectations on operators continue to grow. Operators need to manage their existing networks and the introduction of new technology in a way that provides a seamless experience for users. Increasingly, they are looking to self-organizing networks (SON) features to help configure and monitor networks automatically as a key operational strategy in both improving efficiency and delivering better network performance.
To this end, Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is launching a SON Policy Manager. This product helps operators set rules and policies that steer automatic network behavior, thereby simplifying the setup and running of their multi-technology, multi-vendor networks. The benefits of this approach will only grow as operators add small cells in volume to create heterogeneous networks.
Martin Sjöstrand, Head of Product Line OSS, Ericsson says: "Our SON Policy Manager lets operators take charge of their increasingly complex, automated networks in an efficient and profitable way. It makes it easier to configure network features. That means you free up network experts from having to perform repetitive manual tasks and let them focus on more strategic activities. In short, this product saves operators money and improves the mobile broadband experience, which ultimately means happier customers."
During last year's Mobile World Congress, Ericsson launched SON Optimization Manager, which enables operators to automatically optimize the performance of their mobile networks.
Ericsson SON Policy Manager, which will be available later this year, is the latest addition to Ericsson's SON portfolio of products that enables management of everything from features on network nodes to centralized management applications.
