Ericsson and Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf develop WAP services Ericsson and leading Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf are cooperating on development of new WAP services to be launched in December. De Telegraaf's services will include a selection of news, weather and classified ads for use with WAP-enabled mobile phones. More services will be added in the near future, allowing users to access a large part of De Telegraaf's Internet information when on the move. De Telegraaf's new WAP services will, for example enable users to get the latest news to their mobile phones or check the latest weather reports. Ericsson is supplying De Telegraaf with technical expertise for software development, WAP 1.1 systems integration, development of the WAP applications, and enabling De Telegraaf's current web site for WAP usage. The WAP services, developed by Ericsson for De Telegraaf, will be offered through KPN Telecom's newest mobile Internet gateway service, "M-info". Ericsson delivered the world's first end-to-end WAP 1.1 compliant WAP system in June 1999. The company has delivered more than 20 WAP 1.1 systems to operators. WAP 1.1 is the first true WAP standard. No other manufacturer has so far announced such a broad range of WAP devices as Ericsson. The MC218 was the first WAP product on the market, and during first quarter next year the R320 mobile telephone and the R380 smart phone will start selling. In 2000, a majority of Ericsson phones will be WAP- enabled.
