Ericsson and Nokia begin interoperability testing of their WAP products Ericsson and Nokia have initiated interoperability testing between their products and solutions supporting the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). The tests between Ericsson and Nokia WAP products, such as mobile phones and server products and solutions, is an important step for both companies in further establishing WAP as a truly global standard for mobile data communication. The intent of the tests is to enhance the compatibility of WAP- based products and services, ensuring that they will work together independent of manufacturer. Ericsson and Nokia are two of the four co-founders of the WAP Forum Ltd., and are both fully committed to WAP interoperability across the industry. Both companies have introduced several WAP compatible products, solutions and services for wireless digital markets and have been at the forefront of the WAP development in the industry. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a de-facto standard for Internet content and advanced telephony services in digital mobile phones and other wireless terminals. The WAP Forum has published a global wireless protocol specification for all wireless networks that will be submitted to the appropriate standard bodies.
