Ericsson and OZ.COM demonstrate intelligent communication portal - iPulse multi-service portal aggregates wireless, wireline, and IP voice and data services Ericsson today introduced iPulse , an intelligent IP communication application jointly developed with OZ.COM that instantly and easily connects users to each other by mobile phone, pager, PDA, home phone or computer using a simple point-and-click contact menu. The application also allows users to customize their communications by setting up individual profiles that indicate when, by whom and how, they want to be reached. The iPulse instant communicator will be demonstrated at the Ericsson booth at Networld + Interop in Las Vegas this week. Once activated, iPulse connects the user to an Internet framework. All users who are interested and have proper permission can observe the on-line status of the given user. Additionally, each user can create virtual communities by allowing groups of users to participate in Web collaboration and text or voice conferences. These communications can be customized by users and service providers, using industry standard and open application programming interfaces (APIs) for easy creation of new enhancements. iPulse adds to Ericsson's portfolio of innovative Internet solutions for service providers and leverages the benefits of packet-switched, circuit- switched, and fixed and mobile networks, for seamless communications. With iPulse, one application offers secure interfaces to a host of services for unmatched convenience for end-users and increased revenue potential for operators. iPulse allows service providers to protect their investment in existing communications networks, while tapping into the power of the Internet and new forms of voice and data services. "Most real-time connection solutions today are limited to use on one network, for example Internet e-mail and chat, or follow-me messaging," said Staffan Lindholm, general manager of IP Services product unit at Ericsson's Datacom Networks and IP Services business unit. "iPulse takes a giant leap by bridging multiple services and messaging across different networks to dramatically broaden service offerings, independent of the communication device." For users, iPulse meets the increasing demand for "smart" communications. This complete carrier-class solution provides VoIP telephony to any phone, a detailed directory of all contacts, Web collaboration, intelligent routing and the platform to build one-click e-commerce applications. In addition, iPulse contains built-in, SSH-based (secure shell) authentication and encryption, one of the most advanced Internet-based encryption formats that exist, for secure e-commerce transactions and verifications. "iPulse's security, scalability, ease of use and extensibility put it at the center of our shared vision with Ericsson for IP-based applications," said Skuli Mogensen, CEO of OZ.COM. "The future for e-commerce is no longer limited to the Internet but can be carried out on intelligent consumer devices of choice - be it mobile phone, pager, PDA, home phone or computer." The iPulse back-end comprises clusters of servers, with each cluster belonging to a particular operator, which maintains its own individual user database. Service providers have the option of offering a variety of services within each cluster and billing for the use of those services through an existing telco billing system or an alternative form of billing. Ericsson is the leading provider in the new telecoms world, with communications solutions that combine telecom and datacom technologies with freedom of mobility for the user. With more than 100,000 employees in 140 countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for its customers - network operators, service providers, enterprises and consumers - the world over.
