Ericsson and UQ Communications double data speeds with 4X4 MIMO technology
- Coverage with doubled max data speeds deployed by 4X4 MIMO technology, using no additional spectrum
- Ideal solution for urban and indoor small cell environments
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has completed the commercial implementation of 4X4 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) for UQ Communications in Japan. UQ plans to extend 4x4 MIMO across their WiMAX 2+ network to deliver faster data speeds for their mobile subscribers. WiMAX 2+ service is compatible with LTE TDD.
Toshikazu Yokai, Corporate Officer, Director of Technology Division, UQ Communications Inc., says: "UQ is committed to making mobile broadband accessible everywhere. High-performance features such as 4 by 4 MIMO and Carrier Aggregation, which we are deploying in cooperation with Ericsson, reflect our unwavering commitment to provide our customers with superior performance, value and support."
In addition to the introduction of the Carrier Aggregation technology, UQ has been addressing the acceleration of communication speeds by introducing the 4x4 MIMO technology. The 4x4 MIMO technology doubles data speeds, supporting up to 220 Mbps within just 20 MHz of spectrum. UQ will begin offering 220 Mbps 4x4 MIMO capable commercial devices in March.
Jan Signell, Head of Region North East Asia, Ericsson, says: "We are honored to work with UQ to extend the benefits of high performance mobile broadband to their customers throughout Japan. Ericsson's partnership with UQ has driven innovations in both WiMAX 2+ Carrier Aggregation and now, the deployment of 4X4 MIMO in a commercial network."
Ericsson is present today in all high traffic LTE markets including the US, Japan, and South Korea, and is ranked first for handling the most global LTE traffic - twice as much mobile traffic as the closest competitor. Ericsson is number one in LTE market share within the world's top 100 cities. More than 220 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks have been delivered worldwide, of which 170 are live commercially. Ericsson LTE innovations will be featured at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Hall 2, Stand 2N60.
