Ericsson and Verizon Wireless in Industry-first Multi-Access CDMA2000 Demonstration

Ericsson and Verizon Wireless in Industry-first Multi-Access CDMA2000 Demonstration Ericsson and Verizon Wireless today demonstrated seamless, high-speed packet data services with an industry-first multi-access demonstration via Ericsson's CDMA2000, 802.11b Wireless LAN (WLAN) and BluetoothTM solutions at the CDMA Americas Congress in the U.S. Utilizing Verizon Wireless spectrum, this multi-access solution for CDMA2000 1xEV illustrates how CDMA operators can efficiently and cost effectively deliver 3G Mobile Internet services to their customers. Ericsson's CDMA2000 1xEV demonstration shows how an operator, like Verizon Wireless, can implement a complementary access solution with 802.11b WLAN and BluetoothTM. The multi-access solution enables the end-user to have an 'always best connected' experience when working in local area network environments such as airports, conference centers, offices or other 'hot spots'. Ericsson's CDMA2000 solution is optimized for mobility and coverage in wide area networks - while 802.11b WLAN is optimized for high-speed data services within local area coverage. BluetoothTM is used as a cost-effective access technology for a personal area network. The end-user will experience the maximum benefits of all three complementing technologies, ensuring cost-effective, seamless mobility with secure connections and the highest data rates possible in each situation. Read more about BluetoothTM at "We are very pleased to be working with Verizon Wireless on this multi- access demonstration," said Larry Brittain, vice president, Sales of Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA. "This solution is yet another example of Ericsson's technology leadership and commitment to helping operators such as Verizon Wireless supply the most advanced Mobile Internet services to their customers." "We're excited by the potential opportunity that this multi-access solution creates for Verizon Wireless and wireless customers," said Bill Stone, executive director, advanced technology strategy for Verizon Wireless. Read more at About WLAN from Ericsson Ericsson is driving the development of combined cellular Wide Area Network (WAN) and wireless Local Area Network solutions. The company today offers innovative WLAN systems, based on currently accepted standards. Ericsson's WLAN systems, leveraging the company's leadership in mobile technologies, demonstrate the user benefits of seamless services over a cellular WAN network and complementary WLANs. Users get the maximum benefits of two complementary technologies - having access to their preferred services over cellular WAN technology when on the move, and over WLAN when within in hot spots. For operators and users of 2.5/3G cellular WAN networks, WLAN - with its high-speed advantage in hot spots - is an attractive complement to the cellular WANs. Ericsson provides robust WLAN solutions to operators and enterprises, enabling mobility, security and performance for users - at data speeds of 11 Mbps. With these solutions, business professionals can access their company's network remotely, expanding their work environment and allowing them to work in new and more efficient ways - all without breaking a connection or worrying about cables, plugs or network settings. Ericsson's state-of-the-art encryption and key protocols ensure the integrity of information - an important issue for all business users. With BluetoothTM, users create their own wireless Personal Area Network - and take it with them while on the move, in addition to the benefits of the BluetoothTM wireless device connections. Ericsson is bundling their range of wireless technologies into unique combinations - enabling users to efficiently use their wireless services in WAN/LAN/PAN environments.
