Ericsson and BT have announced that they have signed a contract where Ericsson will supply, integrate, host and manage BT Mobile World, BT's mobile data services portal. The service enables BT to offer its customers a wide range of rich content quickly and efficiently.
Ericsson will be responsible for integrating, hosting, and managing the service. The BT Mobile World solution also includes around the clock support, integration and maintenance of the service.

Ericsson will use its broad network of content and applications providers through Ericsson Mobility World, to supply interesting and innovative content. At first the service will provide polyphonic ringtones, java games, screen animations and information services such as news, travel and sport. The service is currently accessible over SMS, WAP, IVR and the Internet, but the future proof platform is capable of handling MMS and video streaming at any stage in the development of the service.

"The Ericsson system has made it possible to simplify the delivery of content with access by SMS, WAP or Voice to a single short code 51115," says Steve Andrews, Managing Director, BT Mobility. "Another unique selling point is that all SMS charged content is billed as a single whole amount avoiding the multiple premium messages experienced with other systems. The service will be made available to other BT customers at a later date."

"We are very pleased to announce this agreement with BT. Working together, finding the perfect service for BT is truly important in this ever-changing wireless communications arena," says Hans Vestberg, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Global Services, Ericsson. "The agreement reflects the increasing move taken by operators toward Managed Services as a means of introducing new services to market as speedily and economically as possible."
