PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk. (Telkom), the incumbent telecom operator in Indonesia, has awarded Ericsson a contract to deliver Public Ethernet broadband access solution and related services to their customers in East Java, Indonesia.
Ericsson is providing it's Ethernet DSL Access (EDA) solution, for supporting Telkom to build an advanced IP/Ethernet broadband access network. This solution will able to deliver triple play services such as data, voice and video simultaneously to their customers in Surabaya, East Java - the second largest city in Indonesia. Telkom is launching its new broadband DSL access service called Speedy Broadband Access - SPEEDY.

"Through this co-operation, we will be able to offer high speed broadband Internet access that is 'always on' and enable services such as data, voice and video simultaneously to our customers, faster and in a cost efficient manner," said Kristiono, CEO and President of Telkom.

"We are pleased to be a key partner for Telkom's high performance broadband access deployment," said Mitch Lewis, Country Manager, Ericsson Indonesia. "Our EDA solution enables Telkom to achieve their goals in the fast-growing DSL market and offer their customers advanced high speed broadband Internet services."

Ericsson's EDA solution is the most widely deployed IP/Ethernet DSLAM with over 60 contracts globally, utilizing the latest ADSL2+ technology with Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, Ethernet aggregation switches and BRAS.
It is also the most mature IP/Ethernet DSLAM in the market with over two years of commercial network deployment experience and fourth generations of IP DSLAM shipping to date.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.

About Ericsson's Ethernet DSL Access Solution
Ericsson's Ethernet DSL Access (EDA) solution is the cornerstone of Ericsson's Public Ethernet Broadband access offering. Featuring compact and modular IP DSLAM that scales from little as 12 lines to 7,000 lines per single IP DSLAM node making it suitable for large and small sites. It is also temperature hardened making it ideal for outdoor deployments. EDA supports multi standards ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+ as well as multi-annexes A, M and L on the same subscriber line. This means one single hardware solution covers the entire broadband services and network resulting in lower CAPEX and OPEX costs for the operator.
EDA solution enables broadband operators to deploy IP/Ethernet DSLAMs at less than half of the second mile transmission cost of equivalent ATM-based DSLAMs. By avoiding concentration in the DSLAM and connecting directly to an Ethernet aggregation network, the EDA solution opens up the possibility to support high bandwidth-demanding services without DSLAM bottlenecks, while at the same time reducing transport costs ten-fold. This dramatically alters the economics of rolling out DSL and enables operators to address broadband subscribers profitably.
