Ericsson chosen as 3G supplier by Telenor Ericsson has been selected by Telenor in Norway as their main 3G supplier. Only two weeks after acquiring one of four Norwegian UMTS licences, Telenor is the first operator in Norway to announce its UMTS vendor selection. The UMTS contract with Telenor again underlines Ericsson's position as the world's leading supplier of 3G mobile systems. Ericsson has now been named as vendor in 22 third generation agreements announced to date. In addition to UMTS infrastructure, the agreement covers areas such as terminals and applications. The contract is scheduled to run until Dec. 31, 2004. "This agreement is of great strategic importance for Ericsson, taking into account both Telenor's Norwegian operations as well as their ambitious investments in other markets," says Ragnar Bäck, Ericsson Executive Vice President for Western Europe. "This agreement further supports our aim to develop the information society through the mobile Internet." "Telenor Mobil aims to make Norway a 3G-showcase to the world.
