Ericsson ENGINE chosen by Tele1 Europe Tele1 Europe (TEUR), the pan-Nordic data and telecommunications group, has chosen Ericsson's multi-service network solution, ENGINE, to expand its network in the Nordic region. The solution gives Tele1 Europe a fast and cost effective deployment of carrier-class communications. Ericsson's ENGINE solution will make it possible for Tele1 Europe to provide its Nordic corporate customers with new, innovative, bundled services at lower cost by using technology converging the world of voice and data networks. In the first step of the agreement, Ericsson will deliver two Telephony Servers, one in Sweden and one in Norway, and four Media Gateways. The Telephony Servers will handle the call control, while the Media Gateways, based on Ericsson's AXD 301 switch, will handle interconnections between operators throughout the Nordic countries. "Ericsson's ENGINE solution provides a highly cost-effective way for Tele1 Europe, in the future, to migrate our circuit-switched network to a packet-based network," says Tommy Ekström, Chief Technical Officer at Tele1 Europe. "We can also integrate Ericsson's ENGINE Access Ramp (DSL) and UMTS platforms in the future.
