Ericsson is demonstrating mobile broadband Internet access with video streaming and large downloads with HSDPA over a live WCDMA system, running traffic over the air. Performance information with data throughput up to 4.9 Mb/s will be shown on a graphical user interface. The demonstration takes place at the China PT Expo Comm in Beijing October 26-30.
Ericsson HSDPA systems are already up and running, validating end-to-end performance already since the second quarter 2004. Ericsson is committed to numerous customer trials throughout 2004 and 2005, and expects commercial release of HSDPA during the second half of 2005.

WCDMA evolved HSDPA will significantly improve the available downlink peak data up to 14 Mb/s, increasing the system capacity with up to three times and improve the end-user experience.

Ericsson believes that the large demand for broadband access, strong growth of laptop penetration combined with full mobility and wide area coverage of WCDMA networks constitutes an attractive business opportunity for operators already today. WCDMA broadband access to Internet enables "everywhere working" and simplifies for enterprises to stay in touch, via advanced terminals or laptops, with their business partners and for citizens to access Internet whenever and wherever they desire, at bandwidths similar to fixed broadband access services.

Ericsson is the undisputed leader in WCDMA. Ericsson holds the largest WCDMA essential patent portfolio and it is expected that half of all WCDMA launches in 2004 will be powered by Ericsson. The current evolution of WCDMA follows the Ericsson established tradition of offering future proof products, based on cutting edge technology and leading contributions to standardization. Ericsson delivered WCDMA products since year 2000 are easily up-gradable to HSDPA.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
