Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has launched Ericsson Innovation Awards (EIA) 2018 with the theme of ‘The Future of Truth’. This year, the popular global competition challenges students all around the world to find innovative solutions on how we find validate and share truth in the age of ICT. This is tied directly to this year’s Nobel Week Dialogue theme, supporting Ericsson’s international partnership with Nobel Media.
More than two million articles are published online and 500 million tweets are posted every single day. This information influences our personal beliefs and everyday decisions, but while we consume and share information at an incredible rate, we must also consider whether it is actually true.
This year, entrants will develop innovative solutions for different user experiences, social sharing and information validation. They will explore truth in connection to augmented reality, virtual reality, echo chambers, social bubbles, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data intelligence, research, education, publications and teaching, privacy and security, and digital and traditional media.
Marko Bervanakis, EIA Global Mentor Lead and Facilitator, Ericsson, says: “With this competition, we not only inspire the next generation of students to tackle the world’s tough problems, but also provide our expert insights and knowledge while they develop their innovative solutions. Students consistently rate the mentorship they receive during the EIA competition very highly, and this aspect continues to be a cornerstone to encourage students from around the world to enter in big numbers.”
For the first time, regional finals will be held with six regional winners included in the total 15 semi-finalist teams. Four finalist teams will compete in the Grand Final event at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm on May 17, 2018. Registration for entrants is open until November 15, 2017.
