Ericsson intends to sell shelter business to Applied Power Inc. Ericsson has reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to sell its shelter operations in Järfälla (Sweden), Brazil, Spain, Turkey and part of a facility located in Great Britain to the American company, Applied Power Inc. (APW). The sale is part of Ericsson's strategy to focus on mobile Internet in systems, mobile telephones, applications and services. The shelter business comprises product responsibility for shelter solutions for telecom equipment as well as installation of such material in shelters. In all, approximately 130 Ericsson employees will be affected, all of who will be offered positions in the new organization. "We are selling the business in order to establish a standardization and to handle future increases in volume and to meet increased requirements on global solutions with a uniform and high level of quality," says Björn Boström, Senior Vice President, Corporate Supply and IT, at Ericsson. "Through the strategic alliance with APW, the leading global supplier of integrated enclosures to the telecom industry, we are able to further strengthen our position as the leading, global supplier of complete mobile telephone systems."
