Ericsson launches world's smallest fully featured switching system for NMT 450 Ericsson launches the world's smallest fully featured switching system for NMT 450 networks, the Micro MTX. The new switch is being shown for the first time at Sviaz-Expocomm '99 in Moscow. The Micro MTX is a fully digital small switch based on an open UNIX platform. Specifically designed to serve a small number of subscribers, the system offers a total solution for both small and new operators. A system solution consisting of a few radio base stations and a Micro MTX will cost-effectively serve from as few as a couple of hundred up to about 3,000 subscribers. The system is an especially cost efficient complement for established operators seeking to expand their networks in remote areas. The Micro MTX provides the same services and features as current NMT 450 systems. Initial deliveries of the Micro MTX are scheduled for the third quarter 1999, to Russian operators. The Micro MTX includes all the business tools needed for operating a small cellular network service. In remote areas, where transmission costs are high due to the long distances to the nearest switching center, the Micro MTX is an ideal solution for cost efficient network deployment. Micro MTX uses AXE software. It requires a minimum of site specific configurations, and can be installed in less than one day. Most of the commissioning, installation tests and site specific exchange data is pre- configured; the remaining configuration is done remotely from an Operations & Maintenance Center. The system also includes a new Web-based remote surveillance, operation and upgrade system.
