Ericsson Mobile Platforms and RealNetworks signs license agreement

Ericsson will optimize RealNetworks' technology for high quality digital media playback on mobile devices using the Ericsson reference design. By integrating these applications in current and next generation mobile devices, manufacturers are able to provide consumers access to the wide array of Internet multimedia content available today.

Ericsson Mobile Platforms offers GSM/GPRS, EDGE and UMTS platforms based on a common software platform, which enables rich multimedia application and service support. Ericsson Mobile Platforms' solution is 3GPP compliant and is designed to support several media formats. RealNetworks' multi format media engine and codecs extend the capability of the platform and enables access to more rich media content for the end users.
