Ericsson Mobile Softswitch to expand Al Madar network in Libya
Under the agreement, which will see Al Madar quadrupling its capacity and coverage, Ericsson will supply a complete GSM turnkey core network, including mobile softswitch; deliver a radio network; deliver a charging system; and provide GPRS capability. The rollout will start in October and the expansion will be completed within twelve months.
Abdulkhalik H. Ben Ashour, General Manager of Al Madar, says: "Chairman of Al Madar set the direction to take the important step towards an all-IP network. This solution will enable us to offer new and attractive services to a larger number of customers in a cost-efficient way. Ericsson's advanced technology, flexibility and responsiveness were the key reasons for us selecting Ericsson as a partner in our expansion."
Johan Lallerstedt, head of Ericsson Northern Africa, says: "Ericsson has had a long presence in Libya and we are glad to be a part of the market growth there in recent years. The advantages of our technology, in combination with our local expertise, have been the key factors in our continuing good relationship with Al Madar over the years."
Ericsson was the first vendor to deploy softswitch solutions for telephony networks and leads the industry with more than 50 fully commercial networks. Today, Ericsson has more than 20 live, commercially deployed mobile softswitch networks on all continents.
