Ericsson names Texas Instruments as ADSL chipset supplier Ericsson announced today that Texas Instruments will join as a supplier of ADSL chipsets for the company's ANx-DSL product line. In the past, Analog Devices Inc. has been the sole supplier. "By selecting a second supplier for ADSL components, Ericsson is positioning itself for volume deployment of ADSL as the system supplier with the broadest support by semiconductor suppliers," says Arun Bellary, General Manager Multimedia Access, at Ericsson. "The ADSL standard is evolving rapidly in response to growing demand in the market. With Analog Devices Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc. as our primary suppliers of ADSL components, we are assured timely delivery of leading-edge components in the quantities that we require." ANx-DSL is a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) platform for delivering high-speed broadband services over the existing copper access network. "Our long-term relationship with Ericsson has netted both companies a leading position in wireless communications," says Bill Eversole, Director of Marketing for Texas Instrument's Broadband Access Group. "We are enthusiastic about extending this relationship into the new realm of broadband communications, and look forward to the same level of success in the area of ADSL." Ericsson will continue to work with Analog Devices Inc., which has been a trusted and reliable supplier of ADSL components for several years. Both suppliers deliver signal conversion and processing products required for voice, data and video transmission over fixed and wireless media. "Ericsson is working very actively to grow the market for universal ADSL and full-rate ADSL," says Hans-Erhard Reiter, General Manager Marketing & Sales, Multi-Service Access at Ericsson. "Working with the two leading suppliers of ADSL chipsets is essential to ensure Ericsson's leading position and a key factor in Ericsson's ability to deliver products that are designed for full interoperability and compatibility with both today's and tomorrow's standards." Ericsson´s 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries.
