Ericsson provides TDMA wireless networks for offering wireline voice quality in Caribbean Ericsson has received orders from Cable & Wireless to construct IS-136 TDMA wireless networks in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. This is a part of its strategy to enhance subscriber services, enable roaming and offer wireline voice quality in the region. The combined value of these orders is USD 30 million (SEK 237 million). In 1998, Cable & Wireless purchased a IS-136 TDMA (D-AMPS) network in Panama that now provides coverage in all major urban and tourist areas as well as on all major connecting highways. In addition, it recently selected IS-136 TDMA to upgrade their networks in Trinidad and Barbados. Cable & Wireless has a long established history in the Caribbean and is now extending its mobile portfolio with the introduction of digital services using IS-136 TDMA. As virtually all countries in North, South and Central America and many parts of the Asia Pacific region, Eastern and Central Europe have selected this technology, roaming is enabled in a large part of the world. There are nearly 90 million subscribers using IS-136 TDMA/AMPS networks worldwide. IS-136 TDMA was the first technology to be commercially available as a dual-band (800/1900 MHz) and dual-mode (analog/digital) technology. Almost 16 million subscribers are already using IS-136 TDMA digital services.
