Ericsson's 3G technology in more than 10 million handsets

Report this content
Ericsson's leadership in 3G is once again confirmed as, to date, more than 10 million of the world's WCDMA (3G) handsets are based on Ericsson technology.
Ericsson Mobile Platforms took an early lead in 3G with an estimated 30 percent market share in WCDMA handset sales during 2004. Several of the top handset manufacturers in the world have license agreements with Ericsson Mobile Platforms for 3G platforms.

Since May 2004, Ericsson Mobile Platforms' customers have launched 23 3G handset models globally and the number of units shipped has exceeded 10 million units to date.

Handset manufacturers and operators appreciate the platforms' stability, interoperability, performance and reusability. The platform technology is based on Ericsson's global standardization leadership in GSM, GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA, as well as on Ericsson's Intellectual Property Rights, which is one of the world's strongest IPR portfolios for 2.5 and 3G mobile systems.

Ericsson Mobile Platforms has a complete offering, comprising a reference design, platform software (which provides access to key engines for manufacturers to build and launch applications), chipsets (ASICs) and development boards, development and test tools, industrialization solutions (software tools to calibrate and test phones in factories), interoperability and type approval support, training, support and documentation.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
