Ericsson's new ADSL line card strengthens broadband offering - Offering leverages Texas Instruments' quad port multi-mode ADSL chipset Today, at SUPERCOMM 2000, Ericsson introduced a high-density ADSL line card, further strengthening its broadband offering. The line card leverages Texas Instruments' (TI) TNETD4000C solution, the industry's first production quad-port ADSL chipset. Ericsson's new line card also supports Annex B compliant solutions for ADSL over ISDN, as well as a G.dmt Annex A and G.lite compliant ADSL over POTS. The close relationship between Ericsson and TI has yielded a comprehensive ADSL solution for Ericsson's integrated access node ENGINE Access Ramp, based on TI's programmable digital signal processor (DSP)-based technology in both ends. A compelling attribute of the solution is its world-class ADSL interoperability at both the customer premises and central office ends of the wire. Ericsson's new ENGINE Access Ramp offers 30 multimode ADSL ports per line card. "Texas Instruments is a strong partner that offers proven ADSL expertise and large-scale production capabilities," said Ove Anebygd, Vice President and General Manager of Wireline Access at Ericsson Telecom AB. "In combining Ericsson's ADSL products with Texas Instruments' DSP-based ADSL chipsets, we will be able to offer a strong and comprehensive upgrade path for operators' fixed access networks based on our multi-service next- generation concept ENGINE." "TI is pleased to extend our broad-based partnership with Ericsson, a world-leading telecommunications provider with a focus on end-to-end solutions," said George Barber, Vice President and General Manager for TI's Broadband Access Group. "Ericsson's use of TI's chipset is a further indication that TI's strategy to deliver interoperable, future-proofed ADSL solutions addresses key market requirements." TI and Ericsson will continue to work closely in the definition and deployment of future ADSL platforms, which is of strategic significance to both companies. The focus will be on providing broadband services to consumers and businesses that address the market demands for real-world deployable ADSL solutions.
