Ericsson's WebSwitch iPBX/Gateway offers new possibilities for IP Telephony Service Providers Ericsson today announced a further development of its WebSwitch 2000 iPBX and gateway. It is now possible to create a number of new IP telephony end-to-end applications for service providers, such as enterprise toll by- pass (IP-trunk), IP-Centrex, and enterprise located services. This is possible by combining Ericsson's iPBX concept WebSwitch 2000 with Ericsson's newly released carrier-class IP telephony platform IPT 2.0. The WebSwitch platform can now offer operators a range of new services and functions that provide combined voice and data access as well as centrex and enterprise-located services to their customers. It acts as a trunk gateway that supports toll by-pass IP-based PBX networking between branches; as an IP phone gateway connecting traditional telephony devices to IP-based services; as part of the IP telephony Centrex solution, and as a Multi Service Edge Device (MSED) when the operator wants to locate and scale the telephony services at the enterprise site. "Operators and service providers have already shown enormous interest in the new IP telephony solutions that offer enterprises IP-based telephony services", says Gunnar Wranne, Vice President Business Development, Ericsson Enterprise Systems. Ericsson expects this new type of solutions to undergo enormous market growth during coming years, with a boom in 2001-2002. According to a 1999 analyst report published by Probe Research, Inc., the growth in global revenue for this type of solutions is predicted to increase from USD 1,700 million in 2001 to USD 4,200 million in 2004. Supports both IP-based and circuit switched/traditional communication Not only does Ericsson's WebSwitch 2000 iPBX function as a gateway for service providers, it also offers a range of benefits for the enterprise environment. No larger than a pizza box and with gatekeeper and gateway functionality, it can be integrated within a wireless LAN infrastructure, along with wireless IP-phones, messaging applications and the Ericsson MD110 PBX. The solution also supports IP-based wireless and fixed voice terminals, standard H.323 applications as well as standard analogue telephones and faxes. It offers a flexible range of communication options for single and multiple site businesses, including their remote workers. The WebSwitch 2000 iPBX offers an open platform and an Application Programming Interface (API) that enables simple integration with third party products and applications, further enhancing its future-proof properties and capability. The target market for the WebSwitch 2000 iPBX and Voice Gateway platform is small and medium-sized businesses, interacting with public and mobile operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). WebSwitch 100 for small branch offices The WebSwitch 100, a new member of Ericsson's WebSwitch concept, has recently been introduced on the North American and Japanese markets. The WebSwitch 100 is extremely small and easy to install, and works as an phone gateway for small branch offices from two to four extensions. It empowers telecommuters or small/branch office users with Voice and Fax over IP capability. It allows users to connect normal analogue phones and faxes over the data infrastructure (LAN/WAN). WebSwitch 100 inter-operates with both IPT II and WebSwitch 2000. It has already won several prestigious 'Best in Show' awards in the US.
