Ericsson selected as sole supplier for Finnet's 3G network
Ericsson will deliver the first phase of Finnet's 3G network as a turnkey solution in 2005, with extensions to the network to be undertaken in 2006 and 2007. Ericsson will deliver the network infrastructure, including complete network design, deployment and integration services.
Under the agreement, which is valid until the end of 2007, Ericsson will also extend and upgrade Finnet's GSM/GPRS/EDGE network.
Kjell Forsén, President, Ericsson Finland says: "We are happy to see Finnet stepping into the 3G business. This strategic decision will allow them to boost their mobile communications and launch new services, such as mobile broadband and multimedia services."
Riitta Tiuraniemi, Managing Director, Finnet Networks, says: "We believe now is the right time to invest in 3G and HSDPA technologies. Our goal is to launch high-quality 3G services, implemented jointly with Ericsson, by the end of this year."
The first deliveries started at the beginning of June.
