Ericsson selected by Altitude Telecom for LMDS broadband wireless access network Ericsson and its LMDS solution, MINI-LINK BAS, have been selected by Altitude Telecom for the French operator's broadband wireless network in Normandy. Ericsson is the sole supplier for a complete, end-to-end LMDS broadband wireless access solution, including customer terminals and central radio nodes, as well as ATM equipment and IP routers and complete network planning, installation and commissioning. Altitude Telecom was awarded two Wireless Local Loop (WLL) licenses in France last year to provide LMDS, wireless broadband access in the 26 GHz band, in Haute and Basse Normandie. Deliveries are starting immediately for build-out of the new network in Rouen, Le Havre, Caen and Evreux. The MINI-LINK BAS system allows Altitude to offer new and unique types of services to the SME market. As an example, Altitude can in one single radio connection offer a service mix with leased lines and PBX interconnections combined with Internet access, LAN interconnections and other advanced IP services with symmetrical connections at speeds up to 37 Mbit per second. Enterprises can instantaneously have connections set up, customized and optimized, with fixed and variable capacities allocated in real time, all according to their needs. "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with such an innovative customer as Altitude," says Franck Bouétard, Marketing Director at Ericsson France. "This contract is in line with Ericsson's solution strategy for multi service broadband access based on LMDS, xDSL, and IP/ATM technologies. It proves our strength in radio access, as well as our ability to effectively manage complex projects." "We are eager to get started with installations and expect the network to be up and running very shortly to meet the needs of the customers that are lined up to be connected," says Jean Paul Rivière, CEO at Altitude Telecom. Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS system is rapidly and easily deployed thanks to its highly integrated and industrialized design. This is backed up with a high volume production facility, which means Ericsson can deliver necessary volumes on time. Installation and commissioning are extremely simple and fast, with manual settings essentially eliminated.
