High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) has selected Ericsson Mobile Platforms to supply 3G mobile platform system solutions for the development of advanced wireless devices, under the terms of a new license agreement.
The agreement between HTC and Ericsson will enable HTC to create a complete wireless device portfolio across the major technologies EDGE and WCDMA. The agreement also combines the strengths of each company and can be seen as an industry milestone in wireless and datacom convergence, resulting in the development and supply of advanced, smart, handheld devices, both for voice and high-speed data services to consumer and business users.

As one of the most respected Windows CE-based device ODMs (original design manufacturers), HTC is bringing on board their vast experience from development of PDAs. HTC is also the first company to launch wireless Pocket PCs and Smartphone based on Microsoft OS.

Ericsson Mobile Platforms is providing their extensive package of field-proven, end-to-end integrated solutions, containing hardware, the software platform, complete network signaling stack, and an open Application Programming Interface (API).

"HTC is a world-leading ODM company that provides smart handheld product design and manufacturing service to our customers," says H.T. Cho, President of HTC Corporation. "We are very excited to be a strategic partner to Ericsson Mobile Platforms to integrate leading wireless 3G technology into our smart phones and wireless Pocket PCs. By adopting Ericsson Mobile Platforms' solution, we expect a fast time to market with advanced and reliable wireless products for our customers."

"We are very pleased that HTC, the world's leading PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) developer, has selected Ericsson as a partner in broadening their wireless product portfolio," says Sandeep Chennakeshu, President of Ericsson Mobile Platforms. "This agreement underlines Ericsson Mobile Platforms' complete 3G-platform offerings and leadership in delivering customizable platforms for advanced standards."

Under the agreement, HTC is developing value-added 3G wireless devices based on Ericsson's mobile platform technology. Ericsson holds the world's largest portfolio and 3G Intellectual Property Rights. Part of this portfolio is now being offered to the market through Ericsson Mobile Platforms, thereby positioning Ericsson as a leading supplier of the core platform technology.
