Ericsson sells production facilities in Sulmona, Italy to Finmek

Ericsson sells production facilities in Sulmona, Italy to Finmek Ericsson Transmissioni S.p.A. and Finmek have agreed on the outsourcing of Ericsson's production facilities in Sulmona, Italy. The outsourcing is in line with Ericsson's strategy to focus on core business. The sale will be effective as of March 31, 2000. Hereafter, Finmek will take over the Sulmona facilities and provide Ericsson with production services on a contract basis. The production facilities in Sulmona primarily handle assembly and testing of telecommunications equipment. "Ericsson's sale of the Sulmona production facilities is well in line with the company's overall strategy to focus on the convergence of mobility and Internet communications," says Björn Boström, Senior Vice President Supply & IT, Ericsson. Approximately 230 Ericsson employees will be transferred to Finmek in connection with the sale. The contract will broaden the already successful cooperation between Ericsson and Finmek, which was established earlier through the sale of Ericsson's production facilities in Pagani, Italy to Finmek in 1999. With this acquisition Finmek further strengthens its market position in contract manufacturing and advanced technology.
