Ericsson signs strategic order with Malaysian operator in Bangladesh Ericsson has signed a contract with TM International Bangladesh Limited (TMIB) for expansion and upgrading of their GSM network in Bangladesh. TMIB's main shareholder is Malaysian operator Telekom Malaysia. The contract covers network expansions and includes AXE switches for new functionality, base stations for new coverage as well as increased capacity for TMIB's AKTEL mobile service in Bangladesh. "With the new contract from Ericsson, we will be able to increase capacity and coverage in Dhaka and Chittagong and soon role out coverage in Sylhet, Khulna, Comilla, Fena and other cities in Bangladesh," says Omas Zaki Mustafa, Managing Director of TMIB. Ericsson has had a long-term relationship with Telekom Malaysia for many decades, delivering wireline and mobile networks based on TDMA and NMT. This contract, thus, represents a breakthrough with Telecom Malaysia International in delivering a GSM solution.
