Ericsson supplies o.tel.o with WDM systems

Ericsson supplies o.tel.o with WDM systems Ericsson has signed an agreement with German nationwide operator o.tel.o to supply the latest WDM systems. This enables o.tel.o to considerably cut the costs of running its transport network. The contract with o.tel.o is a turnkey solution, including hardware, software, installation and services in order to expand the operator's existing backbone transport networks. o.tel.o is deploying WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) to increase the capacity of its existing infrastructure. Services transported via IP, ATM or SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) can be routed in parallel on different channels. Ericsson Optical Networking (ERION) offer operators scaleable WDM solutions. Ericsson signed its first contract with o.tel.o in 1996. The company is one of the suppliers for switching infrastructure with its AXE system. Telefonica, BT and Sonera are three major European operators that have chosen Ericsson's WDM solutions.
