Ericsson's Internet Payment eXchange (IPX) solution for content payment has attracted a strategic sale to Modern Times Group's (MTG) mobile content service, ZooMobile. MTG is the largest free-to-air and pay-TV broadcaster in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The Ericsson IPX solution supports MTG's introduction of its ZooMobile service (www.zoomobile.se), which is being rolled out in Sweden and Norway. ZooMobile portal users can download ring-tones, games and videos, as well as footage from popular TV programs on MTG's Viasat channels, such as Fame Factory, Top Model and Club Goa.

The contract includes a complete IPX solution, comprising billing and mobile premium and non-premium connectivity via SMS, MMS and WAP.

"We chose Ericsson as our content-payment and distribution provider because of the company's platform stability and online-billing availability," said Hans Holger Albrecht, President and CEO of MTG. "We are committed to making our content available through as many distribution channels as possible. Third-generation mobile telephony provides a new platform for our content and offers the opportunity for building successful relationships between content providers, mobile operators and consumers."

IPX makes it possible for MTG to charge for mobile content, regardless of which operator the consumer uses. Users can conveniently pay for a wide range of services via their regular mobile phone bill or prepaid subscription. The operator benefits from increased traffic and billing revenues, as well as lower administration costs, while consumers get an easy way to purchase and pay for new services.

"We are proud that Ericsson's IPX has been selected as a strategic part of MTG's mobile-content business," said Hans Vestberg, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Business Unit Global Services. "With Ericsson's long experience working with consumers, we know that consumers expect services that are attractive, advanced, affordable, easy to use and that let them communicate anywhere, anytime and in the way they choose."

Ericsson IPX reaches more than 360 million mobile subscribers in 15 countries around the world, with new markets being added monthly. IPX is a non-branded, white-label service.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
