- Ericsson named official live captioning provider for Mobile World Live TV, the GSMA's award-winning Mobile World Congress broadcast service
- Captions for panel discussions, executive interviews, all major press events and keynotes will be created and delivered directly from Ericsson's booth
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) will provide live captioning services for Mobile World Live TV - the GSMA's award-winning Mobile World Congress broadcast service. The captions, which will be displayed on 26 screens throughout the event venue, will be created and delivered directly from Ericsson's booth in Hall 2, Stand 2N60, on behalf of the GSMA.
Mobile World Live TV will be broadcast live from Mobile World Congress via a dedicated channel across Catalonia, reaching over 150 attendee hotels and 20,000 bedrooms. Mobile World Live TV will also be available to more than 90,000 attendees throughout the event via more than 100 monitors strategically located within the Fira Gran Via venue. In addition, the channel will be streamed live to the GSMA's My MWC event app and to the Mobile World Live website.
Thorsten Sauer, Head of Broadcast and Media Services at Ericsson, says: "Being named official live captioning provider for Mobile World Live TV offers us an excellent opportunity to showcase the innovation and capabilities of our live captioning platform. Mobile World Live TV is the main platform that enables Mobile World Congress delegates - as well as a global online audience - to keep abreast of what's happening at the show live and as it happens. We are pleased to partner with Mobile World Live to ensure that its insightful, engaging and thought-provoking content is accessible to as wide an audience as possible."
Justin Springham, Managing Editor of Mobile World Live, says: "The breadth and scope of Mobile World Live TV's content grows every year, and at Mobile World Congress 2015 we're delighted to be offering live captioning services to attendees. With more than 25 CEO interviews already confirmed for broadcast, as well as more than 20 panel discussions, highlights of every major media event and the Facebook and FCC Mobile World Live keynotes, our partnership with Ericsson will ensure event attendees can follow every minute of the action."
Ericsson's live captioning platform made its debut at IBC 2014. The real-time platform supports live captioning in various languages for broadcasters around the world using speech-to-text, newsroom integration, and rapid offline content preparation. It is a key part of Ericsson's Broadcast and Media Services portfolio following the acquisition of leading media services company Red Bee Media in May 2014.
The enterprise-level, schedule-driven software platform, which was developed in-house, uses the best possible speech recognition and stenography technologies to power Ericsson's live captioning services. It allows multiple captioners to prepare and deliver real-time services for clients while maximizing re-use of the caption data after it has been broadcast - for example, by helping to power content discovery and enrich archive search. The platform is currently being used to deliver live captioning services for major broadcast clients.
Ericsson's access services business is the largest in Europe and has been providing captioning services for over 30 years. Using industry-leading solutions, Ericsson delivers 200,000 hours of captioning every year, 80,000 of which are live. It is also the world's largest provider of TV audio description and sign language translation.
