Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has signed a managed services contract with Japan's leading mobile broadband operator, EMOBILE.

Increased use of smartphones and advanced mobile applications has significantly boosted data traffic. In order to meet this increased demand and to ensure continued high quality for end users, EMOBILE recently called on Ericsson to enhance its network with 42Mbps HSPA technology.

Eric Gan, Representative Director and President of EMOBILE, says: "Ericsson's HSPA technology provides us with the quickest, most innovative, and most advanced mobile broadband network that satisfies our customers by providing a true mobile broadband experience."

EMOBILE praised Ericsson's organizational strength and analytical skills, saying they made it possible for the company to deliver innovative solutions. EMOBILE said it was counting on Ericsson's track record and expects the company to continue to evolve its industry-leading network operations.

EMOBILE is a leader in mobile broadband in Japan and has been working closely with Ericsson since 2006. As of January 30, 2011, EMOBILE's subscribers numbered more than 3 million. Ericsson will supply 42Mbps HSPA functionality to Japan's metropolitan areas, such as Kanto, Tokai and Kinki.
