Launch: Ericsson transforms the way networks are managed

Report this content
  • New unified management system designed to deliver high-performing networks that are adaptive to changes in world outside of what operators can control
  • Manages full network scope for mobility, transport and IP in one solution
  • Removes barriers between network domains for smarter decision making, reduces operational complexity and improves efficiency through better automation and policy control

Rapid developments in devices, new services and new apps are placing new demands on the network. Networks need to change continuously. Only a new approach to network management can deliver high-performing networks that also adapt to changes that take place outside the world operators can control - in the real world, not only the virtual world that is the network. It could be that traffic stops because of a snowstorm, that 200,000 people turn up to celebrate a jubilee, when a new shopping center is opened or when 1,000 office workers move into a new building. Whenever reality provides a new challenge, operators need to meet it. By making the network adaptive that is possible.

The new Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) Network Manager will be the platform for telecom operators to manage the transformation of their networks to new technologies, enabling management of hybrid networks, ranging from multi-standard radio, small cell and integrated Wi-Fi in indoor environments, Time Division Multiplexing, evolved IP networks, virtual network infrastructures and dynamic networking with Software Defined Networks (SDN).

Together with Ericsson Cloud Manager, Ericsson Network Manager delivers a full solution for managing information and technology in operators' converging ICT infrastructure.

This solution improves network performance and cuts operational costs by integrating and automating management functions across domains. Performing analysis in the cross-domain data layer enables new, superior insights for policy-based programmability. Ericsson Network Manager is an integrated part of Ericsson's full OSS portfolio for multi-vendor management and is fully scalable for the network needs of tomorrow.

Anil Rao, industry analyst with Analysys Mason's Telecoms Software research team, says: "Ericsson Network Manager provides unified network management in a single platform, making for ease of transition as service providers look to consolidate their network operations.

Communication Service Providers know that achieving the best end-user customer experience is one of their top priorities today. The Ericsson Network Manager is a step-up and the right approach towards providing an integrated, end-to-end network view, along with the flexibility and automation needed to deliver a compelling customer experience that can differentiate the operator."

Thomas Norén, Vice President and Head of Product Area Radio, Ericsson, says: "This new style of management allows us to go from a reactive management to proactive and predictive programmability of the network. In other words, providing a real-time OSS that supports differentiation of performance-critical services end to end. By unifying the world of management systems, our vision is to cut in half the time-to-market for network services."

Ericsson is a market leader in managing networks. We have a strong footprint in mobile networks together with substantial deployments in microwave and optical transport solutions and IP. Ericsson management products are deployed with approximately 70 percent of operators worldwide.

All of Ericsson's existing products within network management have roadmaps supporting migration to the new Ericsson Network Manager, which is already in live trials with a major operator. The first commercial deliveries of the product are expected near the end of 2014.

Visitors to Mobile World Congress will be able to see the new Ericsson Network Manager including demonstrations of its adaptive capabilities for managing the full range of network technologies.

During Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, Ericsson is showing world-leading technology and service capabilities and innovations. We believe that anything that benefits from a connection will be connected, and we lead the way with solutions that drive the development in mobility, broadband and the cloud, creating the foundation for eco-systems and transformation across industries.
