Swisscom Mobile is the first operator in the world to launch M-USE, a new mobile music service developed by Ericsson in cooperation with Sony Music Germany. M-USE is an integral part of Swisscom Mobile's Vodafone Live! portal which was launched at the same time. The M-USE service offers the latest in mobile music content including artist pictures, ringtones, mobile music clips, artist news, and an advanced music recommendation service.
Swisscom Mobile is the largest mobile network operator in Switzerland. The service, which is fully integrated in Swisscom Mobile's Vodafone Live! portal delivers ringtones, artist news and mobile music packages called StarMMS. StarMMS is a new way of bundling music clips, artist pictures, and information.

M-USE gives the consumer easy access to a wide variety of content from Sony Music stars such as Anastacia, Sarah Connor and Ricky Martin.  Content from other record labels will be available soon.

The M-USE service is accessible over WAP and SMS and at a later stage also over the Internet. The music packages are currently sent out via MMS, but the future-proof platform can handle any relevant upcoming delivery technique or content type.

M-USE uses the latest in Digital Rights Management (DRM) and a mobile recommendation engine ensures that music fans receive truly relevant personalized music recommendations.

"We are excited to offer this cutting-edge mobile music service to our customers.  It plays an important role in our new Vodafone Live! offering and clearly underlines Swisscom Mobile's position as the most innovative player in the Swiss mobile market," says Felix Kamer, Head of Vodafone live! project at Swisscom Mobile.

"Mobilizing media is key to Ericsson's growth strategy. We are very happy to reach this breakthrough with such important partners.  It is not only a success for us but also for the whole mobile industry," adds Kristian Teär, President of Ericsson in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

"I am very pleased that Swisscom Mobile has chosen M-USE as its mobile music solution.  M-USE focuses on ease of use and fun makes it a perfect fit for Swisscom Mobile's innovative Vodafone Live! service.  I look forward to a successful cooperation with Swisscom Mobile and to start using their music service," says Balthasar Schramm, President of Sony Music Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

The music service became available to Swisscom Mobile's Vodafone Live! subscribers on November 13, 2003. The service will be available from other operators in the near future.
