NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Erzulie’s Authentic Voodoo today announced the first ever Vodou app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The application comes in a free basic version and an advanced version for $3.99.

The advanced application comes with all the information necessary to learn insider secrets about the mysterious world of Vodou by initiated and highly experienced practitioners.  Users can tour the rich, varied history of this ancient religion from West Africa to Haiti to New Orleans. They can also learn about the Lwa (Vodou spirits), their associated Catholic saints and authentic Vodou ceremony.  The application comes with a number of Voodoo spells users can perform on their own to advance their goals in money, love and business.

The founder, owner of Erzulie's and creator of app, Anna E. Parmelee, considers the information contained in the app to be a first of its kind.  Parmelee hopes to distinguish fact from fiction with the app. "There is a lot of misinformation running around," Parmelee said, "All over the web people slap the 'voodoo' label on inferior products or rituals that have little or nothing to do with the actual tradition."

“Our app seeks to provide users with an accurate and authentic interactive experience that exposes them to the basics and the beauty of the Vodou religion and beyond.”

The app, however, is not meant to replace lifelong studying within the Vodou faith. “Vodou is a living tradition,” Parmelee explains. “Nothing takes the place of learning, serving and working within the broader Vodou community and its elders of the tradition.”

The app provides comprehensive information and images about Vodou, ceremonies and the Lwa, including:

  • Preferred colors, days, offerings and foods
  • Vodou rituals & altars
  • Associated sigils (magical Veve symbols)
  • Catholic saints most closely associated with the Lwa during syncretization

The application will provide a quick and easy-to-use reference guide for the beginning practitioner and the more experienced “Vodouisant.”   It also allows both members of the community, and those with casual interest to easily pull up answers about the history of Vodou, separating fact from fiction.

Erzulie's Authentic Voodoo application is available for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad at the iTunes App Store.
