Ensemble’s Hyatt Place Hotel in Emeryville Opens
LONG BEACH, CA – The first new hotel to be built in Emeryville, California in 15 years opened on November 21. Situated at the northern end of Bay Street Emeryville—a dynamic retail center—the new 175-room Hyatt Place Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area will provide much-needed, modern hotel accommodations to serve Emeryville’s business and leisure travelers.
“The Hyatt Place Emeryville exemplifies our focus on embedded development—finding opportunities within existing, well-located retail centers, and working with the owners and other stakeholders to design a custom hotel that adds value to the surrounding community,” said Brian Ehrlich, Chief Investment Officer at Ensemble.
Part of the Hyatt Place business-travel brand known for sizeable and stylish rooms, quality 24/7 guest service and complimentary full breakfasts, the upscale hotel will be integrated into the amenity-filled retail mall via a landscaped outdoor patio that will extend the mall into the hotel. The property’s ground floor will be dedicated to public uses, including a spacious lobby and dining area, with five levels of guestrooms above.
The hotel will also feature flexible meeting space to accommodate the needs of corporate clientele, and a large, on-site fitness center appealing to today’s health-conscious business and leisure travelers. In keeping with Hyatt Place’s select service model, the Emeryville property will provide quality dining amenities, but will rely on local restaurants to provide guests with an expanded number of options.
As with every Ensemble hospitality project, the Hyatt Place Emeryville will be a reflection of the culture and history of the local community. “We worked to create a contemporary design that met the brand requirements while tying into the vernacular of Emeryville,” said Conrad Garner, Senior Vice President of Development for Ensemble. “Our guest rooms feature oversized windows that provide incredible views of San Francisco and the Bay to the west and the Oakland hills to the east.” Ensemble also selected area artists, Clint Imboden and Eric Powell to implement public space art pieces representative of the local biking culture.
A three-city-block-long development connected by a main street, Bay Street Emeryville is one of the most popular shopping destinations in the area—featuring 65 stores, ten restaurants, a movie theater, and 400 residential units. The destination uses architecture, lighting, landscape and environmental graphics to create an eclectic and energetic atmosphere, with appealing streetscapes, plazas and green space.
Benefitting from a one-of-a-kind location at the intersection of Oakland, Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay, Emeryville is an attractive and affordable lodging option for Bay Area business and leisure travelers. Many leading local and global brands have established their corporate headquarters in the region, including Pixar Animation Studios, Novartis, Bayer Healthcare, Leapfrog, Cliff Bar and Peet’s Coffee.
Other Northern California projects by Ensemble include a new 250 key Marriott Autograph Collection luxury hotel, currently under construction on the Menlo Gateway site in Menlo Park, and the recently completed renovation and addition of villas at the Bernardus Lodge and Spa in the Carmel Valley, managed by Woodside Hotels of Menlo Park.
