New Safari Lodge to open in South Africa in January 2014

We’re excited to announce that the new Geiger’s Camp is on track to open in January 2014 in the “Big 5” Motswari Private Game Reserve in South Africa.  This small, private camp will be a marriage of old and new as the newly emerging 5 star safari lodge reflects its long, rich heritage and soul of a family who has been intimately involved with conservation for many years.

Going back nearly half a century, founder Paul Geiger and later his son Roland, shared a love and passion for the African bushveld.  Now, daughter Marion Geiger and her husband Fabrice Orengo de Lamazière, have re-designed, decorated and will be launching the new “Geiger’s Camp” in honour and memory of Marion’s father and brother.  With memorabilia and beautiful antiques collected over many years, the ambiance is perfectly reflective of man’s commitment and burning passion for Africa - whilst it’s breath-taking location make this a perfect choice when searching for privacy away from the crowds.

Previously known as the rustic self-catering Sharalumi Camp, this new intimate and exclusive camp takes a step away from the classic colonial Africa style – with more modern décor and an ambience reminiscent of an old conservationist’s hide-away.  Comprising two stone houses boasting a total of four spacious en-suite bedrooms, a lounge area, a luxurious veranda and a swimming pool, it is the quiet relaxation of this space that appeals to visitors from near and far.  Refurbishments include private verandahs off each bedroom and special touches including minibars, bathrobes, slippers and laptop-sized safes. For large groups visiting the camp, the option to convert the inside lounge area into a fifth bedroom is available.

Offering ultimate privacy, guests are invited to kick-off their shoes and flop into large leather bound couches; browse through Paul Geiger’s personal book collection – or enjoying dinner under the stars in the boma. Rich textures and colours add to the warmth of the decorative stones and wood.  Whilst original paintings grace the walls, the hospitality is warmly welcoming that there is an instant feeling of inner peace and tranquillity.  Situated high above the tree tops, overlooking the Nhlaralumi River, Geiger’s Camp is the epitome of hospitable exclusivity, and its intimacy will appeal to small groups or individuals.  Still within the boundaries of Motswari Private Game Reserve, Geiger’s Camp will be the high end extension of the current Motswari experience.  Bookings can be made per person per night and are fully inclusive of all activities, accommodation, soft drinks and local South African wines.

Game drives under the expert guidance of a professional game ranger are the highlight of each day’s activities. Alternatively there is also the option of a guided Motswari trail walk for an unmatched African wildlife experience or for the more adventurous, the thrill of a star-studded night spent in the utmost safety and luxury of a tree house at Giraffe’s Nest.
