Kids get WOWED in Zululand - igniting a love of African history and culture at Isandlwana Lodge

ISANDLWANA LODGE IN SOUTH AFRICA'S KWAZULU-NATAL BATTLEFIELDS LAUNCHES BRAND NEW CHILDREN’S PROGRAMME

Isandlwana Lodge, located within the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields and fascinating cultural areas of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, well-known for the battles that took place there between British colonial forces and the Zulu nation, has announced an exciting programme for families who would like their children to have an educational, yet fun experience while the parents are participating in Battlefield tours or other activities offered by the lodge.

The children’s programme is run by Africa!Ignite, a rural development agency that works in community development across the province of KwaZulu-Natal where the Battlefields Route is situated. The WOWZULU Marketplace situated at the Isandlwana Museum is one of Africa!Ignite’s enterprise development programmes and the friendly and competent WOWZULU staff will be your children’s hosts.

The children’s programme includes the following:

  • Walking to the WOWZULU Marketplace from the lodge through the village and hearing some of the stories about the village
  • African-themed story-telling and singing of fun children’s stories and songs
  • Colouring-in of pictures with an African theme
  • Drawing on a large chalkboard in the garden (on fine days)
  • Making a beaded name bracelet
  • Refreshments (a cold or hot drink with a muffin)

Costs are based on the number of children in any one programme and may vary slightly, depending on the length of time required and any special requests from parents, but a 4-hour session would costs from around £6 (R100) based on 4 children participating  to  £18 (R300) for a one-on-one. These need to be pre-booked to ensure availability.
