The Blue Train continues to add to its assortment of awards by being recognised with South Africa’s Short List award at the inaugural Media24 online 2012 South African Wine List Awards.

Following the achievement of being awarded the highly contested 2011 World’s Leading Luxury Train award at the World Travel Awards prize giving ceremony in Doha, Qatar recently, The Blue Train continues to add to its assortment of awards by being recognised with South Africa’s Short List award at the inaugural Media24 online 2012 South African Wine List Awards. The Blue Train was also awarded with this award for the Gauteng Region.

Wine lists were awarded 1, 2 or 3 Flutes according to percentages reached when matched by the judges to the scoring criteria for Short, Medium or Long lists. The Blue Train achieved 3 Flutes for its Short List award.

Some of the notable judges for this year’s awards included Head Judge Cathy Marston, Wine Editor for Food24; Dr Bill Gallagher, Gauteng based judge and respected Chef; Myrna Robins, author and Wine Writer for The Argus Newspaper, amongst others.

The Blue Train adds this award to an already array list of accolades, such as being voted for four consecutive years (1998/99/2000/01) the World’s Leading Luxury Train by some 250 000 travel agents in 181 countries at previous World Travel Awards; the Diners Club International Merit Award for its finest wines for six consecutive years (2006/7/8/9/10); CondÉ Nast Traveller Readers’ FAVOURITE SPECIALIST TRAIN at the 12th Annual Readers' Travel Awards, held at The Royal Institution of Great Britain in London on 1st September 2010 and an Africa Rail Award for Best Passenger Rail Operator received in 2008 and 2010. Indeed an impressive record of accolades!

Hanlie Kotze, the Executive Manager of The Blue Train comments on this achievement, “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive this award. We offer our guests an all-inclusive experience, which amongst other of our value propositions includes an offering of fine cuisine complimented by the best wines South Africa, if not the world, has to offer. This award is testament to that. This achievement shall not lead us to be complacent, but we will continue in our strides to provide our valued guests with the best service that money can buy – in the hope and expectation of truly becoming the world’s most desired African leisure experience”, she concludes.
