We are delighted to welcome Thula Thula Private Game Reserve as the newest member of The Zulu Route (www.zuluroute.com), joining the likes of Ghost Mountain Inn, Cathedral Peak Hotel, Fordoun Spa Hotel, Isandlwana Lodge, Pakamisa Private Game Reserve,  Amakhosi Safari Lodge and Makakatana Bay Lodge.

We have also just launched our new Facebook page, so please ‘like’ it to keep up with our latest news on www.facebook.com/ZuluRoute and follow us on Twitter on @ZuluRoute

The Zulu Route and its interactive website is both a branding initiative and training and information tool that has been developed to work hand in hand to help both consumers and travel agents package up some of KwaZulu-Natal’s most authentic African experiences, properties and tourist attractions for tailor-made self-drive holidays. It equips users with the the confidence, skills and tools to either create their own itinerary from scratch – or they can choose from a number of “ready to go” itineraries suggested depending on their needs – from an action packaged affordable family-friendly holiday to a “no expense spared” luxury honeymoon.   Suggested itineraries currently include “The Real Africa”, “Zulu Highlights”, “Family Friendly”, “Romantic Break”, “The Wild Side” and “Zulu Discovery” – but more are being added as the portfolio grows. Would-be visitors can then choose to book direct - or through their preferred travel agent or tour operator with all the assurances, insurances and peace of mind dealing with an expert brings

Much like the popular “Garden Route” in the Cape, The Zulu Route is an area of South Africa dotted with numerous hotels, B&B’s and game lodges that are ideally located for exploring this diverse province and its many attractions. Highlights include the many game reserves, the Drakensberg mountains, the sandy white beaches, world-class dive spots, historical Battlefields and the amazing Zulu culture that runs throughout and gives you the real taste of Africa.

Thula Thula
(meaning “peace and tranquillity” in Zulu) is a fantastic addition to the Zulu Route. Once the private hunting grounds of King Shaka, founder of the Zulu
Empire, this Big 5 reserve with its exquisite Safari Lodge (8 chalets and 2 suites) and Luxury Tented Camp is located less than 2-hours drive from Durban, and only 45 minutes from Richards Bay. Family owned and operated, Thula Thula is dedicated to conserving and protecting its indigenous and endangered species – and is also the setting for the book “The Elephant Whisperer” written by the late Lawrence Anthony – telling the extraordinary story of his struggle to save the Thula Thula herd, since their arrival in August 1999. Lawrence also wrote Babylon's Ark, about his incredible wartime rescue of the Baghdad Zoo.
