Redsense Medical selects Etteplan to further develop and industrialize their medical device
Etteplan press release May 27, 2020 at 9.45 a.m. EEST
Redsense Medical trusts Etteplan in further developing and industrializing their hose clamp used in hemodialysis treatment. The project includes industrialization of a prototype previously developed by Etteplan in order to launch the product on the market.
Redsense Medical and Etteplan have been cooperating for many years within the medtech area and the development of medical devices. Etteplan has previously supported Redsense in the development of a blood loss detection device. The device is used for monitoring and alarm in the case of blood leakage in connection with a hemodialysis treatment.
In 2017 Etteplan engineered a functional prototype of an Automatic Hose Clamp for Redsense, to be used as an extension of the alarm unit. Once the alarm goes off the hose clamp will automatically stop the leakage. The prototype has been evaluated in a hospital in Canada with positive results. Redsense and Etteplan are now working together to industrialize the prototype in order to launch the product on the market.
The key objective is to develop a device according to MDR (Medical Device Regulation), ready for CE-marking, production and sales including regulatory documentation. The project will be made under Etteplans Quality Management System that is certified according to ISO-13485.
The project involves several of Etteplan’s expertise areas such as industrial design, mechanical engineering, software development and electronics design. Etteplan has extensive experience of developing medical devices, from idea, through concept development to production. The project will be carried out at Etteplan’s offices in Halmstad, Sweden.

Redsense Medical in brief
Redsense Medical is a corporate group with operations mainly in Europe and the United States. The company has developed the Redsense System, an innovation used for monitoring and alarm in the case of blood leakage in connection with a hemodialysis treatment. Redsense Medical solves one of the most serious remaining safety problems within hemodialysis – to quickly detect Venous Needle Dislodgement and catheter leakage to minimize blood leakage. The system consists of a patented fiber optic sensor, designed for either venous needle or central venous catheter, which is connected to an alarm unit. From the very start, the development of the company's technology has been based on the demands and safety requirements of healthcare providers in the dialysis sector.
