I canal believe it! ‘Float my Boat’ challenge raises over £5000!

Tim Doggett, Regional Director for transport company Europa Worldwide Logistics, based at Trafford Park has raised an impressive £5000 for Cancer Research UK.

Based at the Trafford Park Village, Europa employs 25 people at the Manchester branch from where it serves clients across North West England to worldwide destinations.

After beating cancer 12 years ago, and following the loss of his uncle in 2012, Tim (from Bosley near Macclesfield) was inspired to help others beat the disease and give something back.  He has worked for Europa for eight years and the relocation of Europa’s UK Midland hub which is close to a canal side location gave him the ‘Float my Boat’ idea. Europa’s Manchester site is in Trafford Park and is close to the Bridgewater canal, and through connecting waterways Tim planned to kayak along the canal networks between specific Europa branches for Cancer Research UK.

Since 2012, Tim has kayaked over 170 miles of British canal networks. What made this even more of a challenge is that Tim had not stepped foot in a kayak for over 20 years before he came up with ‘Float my Boat’. He spent many lonely hours training doing over 500 miles in preparation for this challenge.

A support team of Europa colleagues Mat Jobson, Branch Manager for Europa Newcastle, and Peter Marley, Automotive Accounts Manager, made the journey on bikes along the towpath to aid Tim in the challenge. The ‘Float my Boat’ team have all been affected by cancer through family and friends and feel that raising money for Cancer Research UK can not only help, but inspire people to do the same.

Tim said “This is the first time I have dreamt up, arranged and completed an event like this. I really wanted to give something back to Cancer Research UK and thank everyone for their support and donations. It has been a fantastic experience and I hope our contribution makes a real difference.”

Andrew Baxter acquired Europa in August 2013 and has continued to support Tim in his challenge.  Europa donated both cash and also contributed to the expenses of the challenge.

Andrew Baxter, Managing Director of Europa, commented “We are very proud of the ‘Float my Boat’ challenge and Tim, Mat and Peter are an inspiration to us all. They have raised a tremendous amount of money for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to their hearts, and Europa is 100% behind continuing and helping future fundraising activities.”
