PRESS RELEASE - 30 March 1999 Continued success for Europolitan's wireless office Agreements with Saab, Ericsson and Enea provide 4,200 new customers An increasing number of major companies are realizing the advantages of using only mobile telecommunication. Europolitan has recently signed agreements with Saab, Ericsson Radio Systems and Enea Data about deliveries of wireless offices. These agreements cover 4,200 users who will be switching to mobile telecommunication. The three companies are Saab in Linköping with around 2,000 users, around 1,700 users at Ericsson Radio Systems in Kista and Enea Data in Täby with around 500 users. All three anticipate a further increase in the number of mobile telephone users at the companies. "Now that a large number of our employees will only be using mobile phones, top-quality communication is vital," says Ulf Backman at Saab Combitech Network. "Europolitan meets all our requirements as regards service, coverage and quality in the network." By and large, "The Wireless Office" has the same functions as a traditional telecommunications system using fixed office telephones. The major difference is that the employees are accessible even if they are not at their workplaces. In a modern company where the employees move around a lot both inside and outside the company, accessibility via mobile phones is crucial. Mobility increases both the efficiency and the job satisfaction of the employees. The three agreements include so-called zone solutions based on different debiting levels depending on where the employee is calling from. For Enea Data, Europolitan is creating "home zones" where the charge is lower at the company's offices in Täby, central Stockholm and Malmö. If the employee is outside these zones, the charge is higher. Saab, Ericsson and Enea Data have access to the same type of switch functions as are available in the fixed net- work, e.g. internal local numbers, call transfer, voice mailboxes and conference calls, the only difference being that everything is done via mobile phones. They also have access to mobile services, which enable them to send and receive text messages, mobile faxes and mobile data. All workplaces at the three companies are equipped with base stations which can cope with calls in both the 900 and the 1800 MHz bands. The employees will be using so-called dual band telephones which can communicate using both frequency bands. "Interest in the wireless office has increased dramatically recently," says Robert Nilsson, Sales Manager at Europolitan AB. "Discussions are under way with several major companies, where they have realized the advantages of switching to mobile telephony only."
