Bengtsfors municipality Sweden's first wireless government office Via an agreement with Europolitan, a large number of Bengtsfors municipality's employees can be reached anywhere - even when they are not at their workplace. Bengtsfors municipality in Dalsland is Sweden's first municipality to invest in a wireless office. Its agreement with Europolitan has enabled it to supply its 300 staff with mobile phones instead of their fixed telephones. "We are increasing the accessibility of our staff and improving the level of service for the people of the municipality," says Marcus Holm, head of IT at Bengtsfors. "The overall costs of having a wireless office will also be lower than the old telephone system." The agreement with Europolitan incorporates a zone-based solution, which is based on having different charging systems for different areas. Phone calls inside Bengtsfors municipal boundary - including the town hall, homes for the elderly, and schools are charged one rate, while phone calls outside the boundary are charged a different rate. Municipality staff have access to the same type of functions as the fixed network, e.g. short codes, call forwarding, voice mailbox and conference calls. Users also get access to more mobile services such as sending and receiving text messages, mobile fax and mobile data. "Bengtsfors municipality is streets ahead of the field when it comes to offering more accessible and better services to the people. The wireless office is the perfect tool for a municipality whose employees travel over large geographical distances," says Robert Nilsson, Sales Manager at Europolitan AB.
